I like this Moongrunt range. It could be used for so many things; near future sci fi or spy fi, fighting aliens on the moon or Mars, or just plain old space nazis. Or the Chinese/US mining wars, as seems to be the intent here.
I've no idea what special rules you'll need for fighting in spacesuits, but it could be enough to make your blood boil.
I really like your painting style...care to make a post on how you paint figures?
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks Buckeye.
DeleteI'm not sure I do much different to a lot of people really. Except take a lot longer about it due to lack of time usually. I've never considered writing about how I paint because I'm usually looking for tips myself.
I always undercoat black and don't tend to drybrush, except on the base obviously, just building up a few layers with thinned acrylic paint. Thinned paint helps the layers blend but you'll often need to apply them a few times as they can be quite translucent. More reflective spots are better done with a slightly more opaque mix.
Other than that it's just a case of a steady hand, a good point on my brush (not necessarily an expensive one, but go for sable) and patience. Oh, and an optivisor if I want to do really fine work.
Hope that helps, feel free to ask if there's anything specific you want to know.
Nice work. Reminds me of a really old board game I have
ReplyDeleteThanks Fred. Which game is that?
DeleteI really like the orangey red you used here. Not a flashy squad, but they look really good. The white helmets give some contrast and presumably help with counting heads on the tabletop ;)

ReplyDeleteHehe, thanks Allison.
ReplyDeleteI see these as very near future, so I wanted them to seem familiar and not too gaudy.
Glad you like them.
Do you know if GZG has developed any sort of backstory/background for the Moongrunt range? I would hate to reinvent the wheel if something has already been put together. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't know, Buckeye.
DeleteThere are definitely plans to expand the range so Jon clearly has a vision for the range, but I'm not sure he has any intention of publishing any kind of background material.
There are rumours of a third edition of Stargrunt though, so who knows?
Interested to see what you come up with...
